Even though they are wholly bound to longstanding agrarian activity, agricultural environments support an extremely wide range of species. The dramatic changes that have taken place in agricultural landscapes in recent decades have had a major impact, resulting in significant biodiversity loss both within Catalonia and throughout Europe. The main aim of this area of research and transfer is to generate science-based information that can aid the management and conservation of agricultural systems and species, as well as the sustainable exploitation of game species.
In particular, the most notable specific aims are:
• To study the ecology of threatened species and the environmental and anthropic factors that determine their distribution patterns, abundance and population dynamics.
• To design conservation measures within the framework of sustainable agricultural and hunting activity, and evaluate their effectiveness.
• To provide information to support decision-making regarding the management and conservation of threatened agricultural species and game species.
