Landscape, conceived as a socio-ecological system resulting from the interaction between ecosystems and society, constitutes the object of study of this programme. To achieve these objectives, the work focuses on analysing the effects of the main drivers of change on the dynamics, structure, and functioning of ecosystems, as well as on assessing natural values and the ecosystem goods and services they provide. In addition, multi-objective planning approaches are addressed with the aim of ensuring the sustainable provision of these goods and services in a context of global change.
We propose a multidisciplinary methodological approach that integrates several lines of work, including landscape ecology, ecohydrology and fluvial dynamics, the study of natural and anthropogenic disturbances, and forest and landscape management. The knowledge generated is incorporated into the development and application of advanced modelling and planning tools for agroforestry landscapes at different scales (forest/landscape/basin/region), with the aim of supporting more robust, efficient, and evidence-based decision-making processes.
