Knowledge
TRANSFER

We work to implement our research findings in the forestry sector, public administrations, businesses, and society at large.
Applied knowledge transfer helps to enhance existing value chains or create new ones, increase the impact of research, and contributes to the training of companies and individuals interested in working in the forestry sector or with its products.

Transfer on
Value Chains
We are pioneers in developing and adding value to various forestry value chains: sawn timber (industrialized construction, carpentry); wood in particle form (district heating, green chemistry, fibers); truffles (support for plantations, promotion in gastronomy); aromatic and medicinal plants (pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food); and pine nuts (cultivation techniques for highly productive plantations), among others.

Transfer and
Impact

At the Catalan Forest Observatory we collect data on forest ecosystems, their production, and related ecosystem services.

We contribute our expertise and project-derived data to the Observatory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Catalonia (OPBN).

We maintain a network of more than 2,200 experimental plots, some of which have been continuously monitored since 1997.

We implement demonstration projects to bring our research into the world and to showcase, in practical terms, the innovations we are developing.

Transfer on
Training

Each year we organize and collaborate on a wide range of training activities aimed at audiences interested in our areas of expertise.

The CTFC is the EFESC National Agency in Spain. We recognize training centers that deliver EFESC training and conduct examinations, recognize trainers and examiners, and issue certificates to all individuals who successfully pass the examinations. Current EFESC certifications include the European Chainsaw Certificate; the Brush Cutter Certificate; the EMOC Certification (forest machinery: processors/harvesters, forwarders and skidders); and the Cork Peeler Certificate.
