The Forestry Hub is an initiative of the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) that serves as a bridge between research, development, and innovation. We work in networks, focusing on landscapes linked to innovative bioeconomy value chains. We develop and test new solutions in facilities such as the Local Wood Valorization Center (Saldes) and the Mediterranean Biotransformation Center (Olius).

From environmental management
to the product
We put scientific knowledge at the service of companies, administrations, and professionals who want to grow sustainable, zero-footprint projects based on forest and agroforestry resources. We promote local valorization circuits that strengthen the local economy and ensure the traceability of resources and sustainable products.
At the Forest Hub, we have unique facilities in the Mediterranean region designed to scale innovation and accelerate the transition toward a bioeconomy based on forest resources. These facilities allow us to test and develop new products, facilitate technology transfer, and support pilot projects that connect research, territory, and market.

MEDITERRANEAN
BIOTRANSFORMATION
CENTER
OLIUS
These facilities, managed by the CTFC, host areas for wood processing, green chemistry laboratories, aromatic and medicinal plant laboratories, a truffle demonstration space, and dedicated training areas.
The building is a demonstration structure of over 1,200 m² made with structural wood from the Pyrenees, reducing carbon footprint and emphasizing energy efficiency, circular bioeconomy, and local sourcing.

LOCAL WOOD
VALORIZATION
CENTER
SALDES
This facility serves as the first link in the wood value chain: classification, sawing, and drying. This process efficiently transforms the raw material and adds value to the resource.
Managed by the Berguedà Municipal Biomass Consortium, the facility can accommodate eight people and operates year-round with its own resources, making Saldes a real and stable example of economic revitalization in isolated rural and mountain areas.
