The study of biodiversity and spatial ecology, and its integration into the management of forest and agricultural systems, are the main elements that underpin our research and transfer activities. The programme’s ultimate aim is to generate knowledge to support decision-making within the framework of environmental policy. The main areas of research and transfer are:

  • Studying the ecology and biology of threatened species or habitats in forest and agricultural ecosystems.
  • Identifying the environmental causes that have determined (and will determine) the changes taking place in the distribution patterns and abundance of populations and species.
  • Designing and evaluating sustainable management models and conservation measures for species and habitats.
  • Promoting the use of new technologies to improve the study and monitoring of biodiversity.
  • Organising and interpreting information on biodiversity in order to help public administrations develop environmental policies oriented towards conserving biodiversity.
