• SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY IN BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION
Environmental policies for biodiversity conservation must be based on solid scientific evidence in order to ensure effective conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. The main aim of this research area is to mobilise the scientific evidence available and combine it with innovative methodologies, in order to provide information that will improve the robustness and effectiveness of political decision-making.

The most notable specific aims are:

• To develop, test and apply operational frameworks that enable the mobilisation and integration of the available information on biodiversity and environmental impacts, in order to inform public policy and thereby promote the integrated and sustainable management of natural resources.
• To conduct research projects that evaluate the effectiveness of current environmental policies, in order to propose improvements based on scientific evidence.
• To provide information and advice for political decision-making on critical environmental issues, such as climate change, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management.
• To promote interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists, politicians and other social actors, in order to ensure that environmental policies relating to biodiversity management and conservation are based on the most up-to-date and relevant scientific knowledge.
