The group’s aim is to study the production potential (as both a crop and in terms of wild harvesting) of aromatic and medicinal species used in different industrial sectors, in order to diversify the range of current crops and as a tool to foster rural development, maintain biodiversity and enrich the mosaic of agroforestry activity, thus enabling the creation of more diverse and resilient landscapes.
Its areas of focus are:
• Agronomic aspects of the main aromatic and medicinal species that can be grown in Catalonia.
• Sustainable exploitation of wild species and evaluation of natural resources and their chemical quality.
• Commercialisation and marketing of aromatic and medicinal plants.
• Initial processing (distillation, drying and extraction).
