The group’s aim is to carry out high-quality research and provide services in two areas: forest fungi and truffle cultivation.
With regard to forest fungi, by studying their ecology, production and diversity (across a network of more than 100 plots of land and using data collected weekly over the course of more than 25 years) we have managed to obtain solid models of fungi production and diversity in forest ecosystems, and have identified key variables that allow us to manage mycological resources.
With regard to truffle cultivation, by studying the ecology of the fungus T. melanosporum and its cultivation we have been able to identify some of the aspects that are key to managing modern cultivation processes for black truffles. We have analysed the most relevant factors relating to the ecology of T. melanosporum and then transformed this knowledge into guidelines for cultivation that are of great use to the production sector.
