Part of the Mediterranean Wood Chemistry Lab, its aim is to develop and implement biomass conversion processes and technologies for the purpose of obtaining products. It has developed processes for the thermochemical conversion of biomass in pilot plants, along with processes to separate and extract chemical products that are valued highly by the chemical, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries (e.g. antioxidants, furfural, levoglucosan and vanillin, among others).
The group’s aim is to become a benchmark for research and the implementation of these types of biorefineries and bioproducts from Mediterranean agroforestry ecosystems.
