The aim is to understand, by means of a multiscale approach, the factors that modulate the dynamics and operation of forests within the current context of global change. The studies incorporate an analysis of how forests respond to disturbances (especially forest fires), the processes of rural abandonment and its repercussions on the operation of forest ecosystems, and the evaluation and modelling of the consequences – with regard to the provision of ecosystem services – of applying different forest management strategies.
The ultimate aim of the research is to generate knowledge that can help enhance the adaptive capacity of forests and maintain the provision of the goods and services they offer society.
