Joan Abel Bachs holds a Master’s degree in Forest Engineering (UdL), a Technical Forestry Engineering degree (UdL), and a Master’s in Geographic Information Systems (UPC). Since 2017, he has been responsible for the technical and scientific activities in the selection and improvement of forest and agroforestry species, first at IRTA and currently at CTFC. He is also specialized in the use of drones (UAV) and the analysis of the images obtained. He is currently involved in the
PLASTICPINE (2023-2026), INTERREG SUDOE CoopTree (2023-2025), RUMIAR (2024-2026), GO YesWeCast (2024-2026), ForH2O (2024-2026), and DEMO +pinyoCAT (2024-2026) projects, as well as participating in the selection and characterization of base material within the framework of the Catalan Forest Selection Program (FC Contract 2021-2024). He has been directly involved in the selection and registration of four Montseny-native chestnut varieties in the Spanish Office of Plant Varieties (OEVV) as part of R&D projects funded by the Barcelona Provincial Council (2018-2022) to restore chestnut production in Montseny Natural Park.
Additionally, he has actively participated in the Supranational Operational Group GOPinea (2021-2023) and the TRACENUTUS project (2021-2023). He was also involved in the study of poplars in five riverbanks in the province of Barcelona, commissioned by the Barcelona Provincial Council (2019-2020).
