PROGRAMA / Gestió i conservació de la biodiversitat
LÍNIA / Conservació d'ecosistemes forestals

Ana Sanz Pérez is interested in the use of quantitative ecology to solve ecological questions that can be applied to improving the conservation status of endangered species. She completed her PhD at the Forest Science Center of Catalonia, studying farmland bird population trends and evaluating the effectiveness of conservation measures to increase occurrence and abundance of endangered steppe bird populations. After her PhD, she has been an associated researcher to the CTFC while performing a 2-year postdoc at the at the Leibniz Institute of Zoo and Wildlife Research (Berlin) and University of Barcelona, where she studied population dynamics of Brown bears in the Pyrenees by using age-specific Spatial Capture Recapture Models. Currently, she is a postdoc at the Biodiversity Research Institute (CSIC - Oviedo University - Principality of Asturias), and associated researcher to CTFC. Her research now focuses on improving monitoring of expanding Brown bear populations and investigating the effects of expanding bear populations on livestock productivity. Her work attempts to inform decision making in pathways to improve human-bear coexistence.
